Leadership Journey

Kristin Peck is a nonprofit development leader with more than twenty years of experience across fundraising, institutional funding, donor engagement, corporate and community partnerships, program leadership, and organizational strategy. After several years of consulting and interim leadership, she is focused on bringing that breadth to one organization for the long term, building donor relationships over time, strengthening a development operation, and contributing to sustained philanthropic growth.

Her development experience spans individual and major giving, institutional grants, corporate partnerships, sponsorships, donor stewardship, community fundraising, events, board engagement, communications, prospect development, and revenue strategy. Her earlier program leadership also gives her a strong understanding of what happens after a gift is made: how funding becomes programs, staffing, services, outcomes, and measurable community impact.

At Band of Angels, Kristin served as Program & Community Engagement Director while embedded through her consulting practice, holding a broad portfolio across development, external relations, fundraising, partnerships, communications, scholarship stewardship, board development, events, volunteers, and organizational systems. She worked directly with multiple corporate contacts at Hallmark, developed and maintained sponsor and community relationships, coordinated extensively with Fox 4 around media visibility and community engagement, and originated outreach to civic and community dignitaries as a strategy for expanding the organization’s reach, credibility, and philanthropic network.

She led Art That Blows, Band of Angels’ signature fundraiser, which drew approximately 1,000 attendees and raised more than $140,000. Her responsibility covered the full operation: fundraising strategy, donor communications, sponsorship recognition and fulfillment, OneCause auction management, artists, vendors, food trucks, permits, media coordination, paid and agency staff, approximately 100 volunteers, VIP and dignitary engagement, contingency planning, and the overall donor and guest experience. She also executed nine satellite events and developed additional opportunities for donors, businesses, musicians, artists, influencers, and community supporters to engage with the organization.

Her work extended well beyond events. Kristin strengthened stewardship around instrument donations, one of Band of Angels’ most important entry points for new donor relationships, and introduced personalized handwritten follow-up designed to deepen those connections. When relationships that began with an instrument donation developed into individual gifts, she continued that relationship through deepening impact communication and scholarship stewardship rather than treating the contribution as the end of the donor journey. She also administered more than 50 scholarships, supported the Spencer Fane scholarship relationship, recruited board members, contributed to major-gift strategy, strengthened corporate and community relationships, and improved internal systems for instrument and donor management.

Earlier, Kristin spent six years leading Empowering Futures at Johnson County Health & Environment, where she managed an approximately $500,000 annual program budget, supervised staff, and served as the sole author and steward of the program’s principal annual renewable Targeted Case Management grant. She managed reporting, compliance, funding accountability, and partner relationships while developing corporate and community support that diversified and expanded the program’s resources beyond its primary public funding stream.

Since 2020, Kristin’s consulting work has broadened her experience across nonprofit and mission-driven organizations, including fundraising strategy, major-gift readiness, institutional funding, partnerships, communications, board development, organizational capacity, and implementation. Working across organizations at different stages of growth has sharpened her interest in the part of development work that requires time: building trust, deepening relationships, learning an organization thoroughly, and seeing strategy through from cultivation to long-term impact.

Kristin holds an MSW from the University of Kansas and a BA in Secondary Education and English from Ottawa University. Her continuing professional education reflects the increasingly analytical and technology-driven nature of development leadership. She has completed Salesforce Trailhead’s Manage Fundraising with Agentforce Nonprofit and has advanced coursework through HarvardX in strategic leadership for mission-driven organizations and Wharton in business analytics, with study spanning nonprofit finance, leadership, customer and constituent analytics, operations, people analytics, and accounting analytics. She also brings hands-on experience with Salesforce, OneCause and Keela CRM systems.

Her leadership approach was also shaped by extensive LEAP (Leadership Empowers All People) / High-Performance Organization training through Johnson County Government, emphasizing shared leadership, clear accountability, staff development, appropriate decision-making authority, and removing barriers to strong performance.

Based in metropolitan Kansas City, Kristin is pursuing senior development leadership roles where she can bring together major-gift relationship building, institutional funding, corporate partnerships, donor stewardship, fundraising strategy, analytics, technology, communications, and organizational leadership in service of one mission over the long term.
